Unconditional Support for Elderly People
Starting off in the year of 1976 as a small non-profit, not-political NGO with a small office in Kolaghat (80 km away from Kolkata city), under Purba Medinipur district in West Bengal, Nabarun Seva Niketan has emerged a well-established community based social development organization, pursuing the sole objective of service to mankind (specially for the downtrodden section of the society). Currently having a total staff strength of 90, the organisation has a good infrastructure with highest level of reputation in project management, registered under sec12A and 80G of I.T act to provide tax exemption for its donors. The NGO is also registered under FCRA, Govt. of India to receive foreign donations.
The name of our philanthropic organization is 'Nabarun', which signifies new sunlight in life eventually a conduit channeling pooled capital, resources, and capabilities, towards perceptible social development for the marginalized section of the society. This Transformative Philanthropy was strongly established in early 70's by our legendary founder Mr. Prabhat Ranjan Chowdhury with the help of other distinguished personalities such as Ajay Chakraborty, Dilip Pramanik, Tapan Roy to name a few. The legacy is marching ahead through catalysing impactful change in needy families across Health, Education, and Skill Development year after year. As a distinguished non-profit philanthropic organization, we are steadfast in our commitment to creating a sustainable and equitable world for all.
Considering access to quality education for kids as a paramount concern, we have developed a primary school (from nursery to class 4) for the children specially from the deprived communities in early 90's. The school is solely administrated by Nabarun charging a nominal fees for each student. As donations started coming, we have reconstructed the school building with good furniture, electricity, separate computer room and little playground for the kids. The school also conduct classes of singing, dancing, recitation, sports, yoga, and karate for the kids, aiming towards proper nourishment for unleashing their boundless potential.
Full commitment towards upholding the dignity of poor & marginalized through awareness program, skill development, providing education, healthcare, empowering and strengthening lives of deprived society in the informal economy.
History says, a group of young veterans formed a sporting club (for fun & frolic), naming as "Nabarun Sporting Club" (registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961) in early 70's located at Panskura block in Midnapur district of West Bengal; The club gradually took social welfare movement initiative engaging with an active participation of community people throughout the Medinipur district, and thus it became a non-profit, non-political and non-Government Organization (renamed as NabarunSevaNiketan in the year 1988) in the remote village of Pulsita in Kolaghat Block under undivided Medinipur district. Since then NabarunSevaNiketan is run by an elected governing body consisting of the members who are reputed persons of this locality with a rich experience of working in social development sector.
Our target community (poorest as well as helpless residing in remote rural area) is mostly illiterate with a very low level of awareness on basic health care in general and in ophthalmic care in particular; people are physically and mentally weak, suffering mostly from cataract and other related diseases.
With the great vision of providing quality eye care facilities for such needy people at nominal prices, Nabarun developed a multistore separate building (eye-care Centre) in the year of 2006-08, with 10 plus bed hospital, treatment centre, OT room, doctor's rest room and a small optical shop.
The scope in which the organization conducts its activities effectively allocating resources, engaging with stakeholders, and implements its charitable initiatives can be segregated in some aspects & focused areas, widely depending on the goals & mission of the organization.
